826LA is a writing-based nonprofit based in Los Angeles and an organization incredibly close to my heart. They devote countless hours to tutoring area students in creative writing and English language skills. As a volunteer for four years and counting, I can attest that the students' creative energy is inexhaustibly infectious.
826 organizations utilize a creatively-charged storefront space to bring in revenue that keeps programming free for the students. When the time came for 826LA to design and open the "Mar Vista Time Travel Mart," an 1870s-based mercantile store for time travelers, I jumped at the chance to write scenic elements, signage, and copy that sneaks up on curious visitors and rewards careful observers.
